Funeral services for Gordon Caparoon of Chadron, Nebraska will be Sunday, September 4, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Chamberlain Chapel in Chadron with Pastor Rod Bieber and Pastor Jim Nichols officiating.
Burial will be at a later date in Fairview Cemetery in Rushville, NE.
Gordon Caparoon, 72, of Chadron, NE, passed away August 31, 2011 at home.
He was born June 21, 1939, in Rushville, Nebraska, the son of the late Alvin "Short" and Lois Caparoon. Gordon graduated from Chadron Prep High School in 1957. He demonstrated his love for his country by serving in the Air Force and National Guard. His work as a fireman for the Chicago & North Western Railroad left him with a lifelong fondness for trains. He went on to become a prominent member of the Chadron community where he was a highly recognized General Agent for Manhattan Mutual Life Insurance Company for over 40 years.
He married his best friend Elsie King, of Hay Springs, on August 14, 1960. They just celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary.
Gordon was a devoted member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church for over 40 years where he especially enjoyed working with the youth. He enjoyed fishing, carpentry, woodworking, and gardening. His afternoons were often spent outdoors at his picnic table where he enjoyed nature and conversing with passersby. After retirement, his passion for auctions and love of people prompted him to pursue his hobby of auctioning. As a self-taught auctioneer, he enjoyed working with Arner Auctions for the past 15 years.

Wife: Elsie
Daughters: Sharon of Chadron, NE; Lori and husband Lance Darrough of Lincoln, NE. Son: Gary of Chadron, NE.
Grandchildren: Jennifer Kolb, Aubrey, Brady, and Natalie Darrough.
First Cousin: Evelyn and husband Albert Landreth of Rushville, NE.
Mother-In-Law: Virginia King of Chadron, NE.
Brother-In-Law: Dennis and wife Kathie King of Gordon, NE.
As well as his nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a stillborn son, his granddaughter Laraine Kolb, and father-in-law Kenneth King.
His steadfast belief that goodbyes are not forever, comforts us as we await the second coming of Jesus. And to use his favorite quote, "See you later alligator."
A memorial has been established for the Chadron Rescue Unit. Donations may be sent to Chamberlain Chapel, PO Box 970, Chadron, NE 69337.
