Funeral Services for Alice Malinda Porter will be Saturday, November 5, 2011 at 11:00 AM at the United Methodist Church in Crawford, Nebraska with Pastor George Kilmer officiating.
Interment will be at the Crawford Cemetery.
Please join the family afterwards at the Fellowship Hall in the church for a luncheon.
A memorial has been established in memory of Alice to the Crawford Senior Center, 404 2nd St., Crawford, NE 69339

Alice Malinda Porter of Crawford, Nebraska passed away peacefully on October 27, 2011 at the Ponderosa Villa. She was 101 years old.
Alice was born March 5, 1910 on a ranch southwest of Crawford to Louis Monroe and Hollie Phillips Thornton and spent her childhood years there. She was the third of eight children. Alice loved riding and working the horses. She attended rural grade schools, Belmont and Crawford High School. In 1925, she joined the Girl Scouts of America.
On June 23, 1928, Alice married John Charles Porter. They were married for 61 years. They lived on their farm east of Belmont, NE which was homesteaded by John's parents in 1892. Alice enjoyed her two sons, gardening, needlework and going to church and will be remembered for taking care of family, friends or anyone who needed her help. Alice learned to play the fiddle in her early 60's and competed in the local fiddle contest. After living on the farm for 75 years, she moved to Crawford.
In 2008, Alice was Co Marshal in the Crawford July 4th parade. She celebrated her 100th birthday in March 2010 with family and friends and was honored by Mayor Maloney in declaring the weekend as "Alice Porter Weekend". She was also given a key to the city of Crawford.
Alice was a lifetime member and volunteer of the Royal Neighbors of America, Belmont Neighbors Club and the Retired Seniors Volunteer Program. She was also a longtime member of the United Methodist Church of Crawford. Over the years, she volunteered at the Ponderosa Villa nursing home. She enjoyed spending time with friends at the Crawford Senior Center where the staff was so good to her.

Preceding her in death were her parents, three brothers, Harold, Leslie and Louis and four sisters, Della, Grace, Elsie and Louise, her husband John Charles and a son, John, Jr.

Granddaughter: Susan Dawn of Walnut, CA.
Daughter-in-law: Sharon Porter of Lincoln, NE.
Granddaughters: Patricia (Doug) Koom of Omaha, NE; Pamela (Brian) Bencken and Kim Canady; Michaella (Greg) Gray and families.
Grandsons: Michael (Florence) Porter of Broomfield, CO; Douglas (Dawn) Porter of Alta Loma, CA.
Great Grandsons: Mackenzie, Nicholas and Dylan Porter.
Sister-in-law: Mary Lou Thornton of Chadron, NE
Many cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family.
Chamberlain Chapel of Crawford is in charge of arrangements.
