11/12/2011 - Lorraine Miles

Memorial services for Lorraine Miles will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2011 at 2:30 PM at Chamberlain Chapel in Chadron with Dr. Russ Seger officiating.
Lorraine Imogene (DeBrie) Miles passed away in Chadron on November 6, 2011 after a battle with cancer. She was born July 31, 1940 in Gibbon, Nebraska to Milton and Gwen DeBrie. She was 71.

During her youth,
Lorraine was very active in a number of activities and helping on the family farm. Her father raised sheep and Lorraine enjoyed working with the bum lambs. She also was a member of 4-H, the marching band, several school choirs, church activities and leadership clubs. She graduated in 1958 from GibbonHigh School. In 1962, she graduated from ColoradoStateUniversity
as an Occupational Therapist. In 1989, she continued her education at Chadron State College, earning a Specialist in Education degree in Psychology in 1992. In 1999 she received her Doctor of Philosophy Degree from Southern California University. She used her experiences as an Occupational Therapist and her Psychology training to work with numerous clients at her business Mental Health Care.

In 1962,
Lorraine married Richard Miles. The couple lived in Chicago, Illinois, Plattsmouth, Nebraska
, and moved to Chadron in 1970. They had two children, Mary and Barbara. In 1988, the couple divorced.

Lorraine is survived by daughter Mary Grassrope and husband Alvin, daughter Barbara Waugh and husband Mike, five grandchildren: Cassie Wilson and husband Sean, Katie Brown and husband Cody, Patrick Waugh and wife Angela, Jasmine Richardson and husband Andre, and Paul Weisbeck; her siblings; Leonard DeBrie and wife Sue, Millie Shultz and husband Russ, Patricia Sadler and husband Chuck, Anita Wittman and husband Joe, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents Milton and Gwendolyn DeBrie and an infant brother, Stanley.

A memorial has been established for the Girl Scout Memorial Garden. Donations may be sent to the Chadron Community Foundation at the First National Bank of Chadron and marked for the
MemorialGarden, PO Box 1351, Chadron, NE 69337.
