Verda Strong Musfelt, 87, died Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at the Chadron Community Hospital. 

Verda was born the eighth of nine children to Walter and Mary (Schneider) Strong on June 8, 1924 in Clinton, NE. 

She is survived by her two sisters, Marjie Shannon of Rushville and Evelyn Tyndall of San Diego, CA, daughter-in-law, Phyllis Musfelt of Rushville and son-in-law, Tim Horn of Hemingford.   She is also survived by her grandchildren, Melanie Murdock of TX, Todd Murdock of ID, Kimberly (Greg) Brekel of NE, Troy (Kim) Musfelt of NE, Trent (Nicole) Musfelt of SD, Karla (Lorenzo) Wilhite of VT, step-grandchildren, Samantha (Will) Hall, Jason (Amy) Horn, Mandy (Joe) Frazee, her great-grandchildren, Taylor and Maddison Wilhite, Sam and Skylar Schumacher, Myranda and Mykinzee Musfelt, Ruby and Jace Musfelt, seven step-great grandchildren, Hannah, Connor,  Addison, Kortney, Jessica, Gabriel, Trevor and Brody, and many loving nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Milo, her daughter, Tamara, her son, Gary, her five brothers and their spouses, Ralph (Louisa), Vilo (Doris), Gordon (Juanita), Loran (Dolly Sue), and Emery (Enid) Strong, her sister, Helen (Roy) Michaelson, precious niece, Cristi Laue, two brothers-in-law, Forrest Shannon and Mack Tyndall, and her very special friend of 14 years, John Herron, Sr. 

 Funeral services will be Monday, February 6, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Chadron with Reverend Seth Leypoldt officiating.  Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery at Rushville. 

Memorials may be given to the Chadron Volunteer Fire Department Rescue Unit Fund, P.O. Box 829, Chadron, NE  69337 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
