Funeral services for Ellen Powell, age 85, of Chadron will be Monday, February 20, 2012 at 10:00 AM at Chamberlain Chapel in Chadron with Pastor Matt Parker officiating.
Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be open to the public at Chamberlain Chapel in Chadron.
Ellen Powell, 85, of Chadron, Nebraska, went to be with her sweetheart Bob on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2012.
Ellen was born on April 22, 1926, to Dell and Frances DeHaven in Harrison, Nebraska. Ellen was raised in Harrison, graduating from Sioux County High School in 1944. She taught one year in Highland School and then worked at the Post Engineer Department at Fort Robinson. She also taught at Whitney. Ellen married her high school sweetheart, Bob Powell, when he returned from the war, on January 8, 1946. They had three children.
Ellen and Bob lived in Harrison until Bob took a job in Lusk, Wyoming. In 1959, they moved the family to Chadron and opened Pioneer Skelgas with Ellen’s brother Rich DeHaven. After Bob’s sudden death in 1968, Ellen continued to work alongside her brother until they sold the business in 2002.
Ellen was a kind and generous person who loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed her work and playing cards.
Ellen was preceded in death by her loving husband Bob; her parents Dell and Frances DeHaven; and her brother and wife Dale and Willadell DeHaven.
Immediate Survivors:
Children: Carol (Scott) Malcolm of Gering, NE; Susan (Gib) Veskerna of Harrison, NE; Bob (Deb) Powell of Billings, MT.
Grandchildren: Michelle (Ross) Heinen, Laurie O’Gorman, Ed (Jade) Malcolm, Chris Singpeil, Rob Singpeil, Sarah (Colby) McCoy, Bobby (Amanda) Powell, Amy Powell and Stephanie Powell.
Great-Grandchildren: 17
Brother: Rich (Rita) DeHaven.
Numerous nieces and nephews who were all very dear to her.
