Service for Wayne Donovan Speer age 83, of Chadron, will be Saturday May 17, 2014 at 10:00AM at Chadron United Methodist Church, with Dr. Reverend Mark Crist and Reverend Al Trucano.
Burial with Military honors will be at FairviewCemetery, Rushville, NE.
Visitation will be at 7:00PM, Friday, May 162014 at the UnitedMethodistChurch in Chadron.
A memorial has been established for the American Heart Association and the ChadronUnitedMethodistChurch. Donations may be sent in care of Chamberlain Funeral Home, PO Box 970, Chadron, NE69337.
Wayne Donovan Speer, 83, of Chadron, NE died Wednesday, May 14 at Regional West Medical Center Scottsbluff, NE. He was born December 14th, 1930 in Alliance, NE to Homer and Stella Speer. Wayne grew up on a ranch 17 miles North of Lakeside and graduated from RushvilleHigh School in 1948.On August 31, 1952, Wayne married Patricia Talbot of Rushville, NE. To this union three children were born, Neil Allan, Rebecca Jo, and Tracy Ann.
He served in the United States Air Force from Jan 1951 to Jan 1955 when he was honorably discharged. Wayne returned to the family ranch in Lakeside, NE, where he continued to ranch for the next 51 years. He retired from ranching in 2006 and moved to Chadron, NE. Wayne enjoyed bowling, golfing, breaking horses and raising cattle.He knew no strangers and was friends with everyone he met, always willing to help out. Preceding him in death are his parents Homer & Stella Speer and brother-in-law Tom Vandel.
