Robert Thomas Chizek, age 87, of Chadron died on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at the Chadron Community Hospital surrounded by family.
At his request, there are no services.
Robert, (Bobby), was born on December 29, 1926 at the family homestead in Wayside, NE to Thomas Joseph Chizek and Marvel Catherine Durham. He served in the US Army, during World War II, from May 23, 1945 to October 17, 1946. Robert married his wife, Betty Jean Kruse in 1945. They lived on several military bases before he was discharged and then moved to Chadron, NE. Robert worked as an auto- mechanic for Eitemiller Studebaker, Prey Chevrolet, and Owen Packard before beginning his career as a machinist with the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad until his retirement in 1988.
Robert was a kind, compassionate man that enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. His sons were adults before they learned you didn’t have to run an antelope at 50 mph to fill a permit. He bought an airplane in 1975 and enjoyed flying over the ground on which he rode horses as a youth.
Bob’s family members include:
Wife Betty, of 69 years.
Son: John Chizek & (Vicki), Grandson: Roger Chizek & (Carrie), Great Grandsons: Ryan, Nikolas (Karissa), Tommy, and Jady, Grandson: Craig Chizek(deceased), Great Grandsons: Aaron and Victor
Son: Bruce Chizek and (Lois)
Siblings: Maxine Deans, (Bernard), Doloris Buckmaster, (Don-deceased), Donnie Chizek, (Laura), Dick Chizek (Sandi), Kenny Chizek and numerous nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister
Jolliffe Funeral Home and Crematory in Scottsbluff is in charge of arrangements.
