09/13/2014 - Marion Alice Shumway
The family will have an open house for Marion Alice Shumway, age 92, of Crawford, on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at Noon at the Shumway Farm, 5 miles south of Chadron on the Old Country Club Road.
As per her request, cremation has taken place and no formal funeral will be held.

Marion Alice “Mammy” Shumway was born on January 16, 1922 and passed away on August 23, 2014 at Ponderosa Villa in Crawford, NE where she had resided for many years.
Marion was born to Ralph Bailey and Bessie Sara Pinneyin Morrill, NE. She lived on the family ranch northeast of Crawford, attended District 69 Country School, and graduated from Crawford High School. After high school she attended Linwood College in St Charles, MO for 2 years.
Marion and her husband, Charles, together ran various businesses in Chadron. In 1957 they purchased the Campus Shop, while simultaneously managing the American Legion Club. They operated the Chadron Country Club and owned Charley’s Liquor Store in Chadron. They owned and operated Marion’s Mademoiselle Dress Stores in Chaldron and Alliance.
Upon their retirement, Marion and Charley wintered in Arizona, but always returned to their grass roots of western Nebraska. Mammy loved to cook and entertain for anyone who showed up at her home. She enjoyed traveling with friends all over the world. She loved to follow her favorite football teams, the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Denver Broncos, she was an avid baseball fan and enjoyed watching the Colorado Rockies. She was an ardent supporter of Chadron State College and the Ft Robinson’s Playhouse.

Daughter: Penny Hutchison and husband Larry ofTorrington, WY
Son: David “Cactus” Shumway and wife Jan ofCentennial, CO
Grandsons: Luke (Jo Beth) Hutchison of Belgrade, MT, Matt Hutchison of Torrington, WY, Rhett (Amber) Shumway of Aurora, CO, Matz Shumway of Centennial, CO
Granddaughters: Erin Shumway of Reno, NV, and Megan (Brandon) Dornseif of Centennial, CO.
Great-grandchildren: Luke’s daughters Heidi Jo and Lydia, Matt’s daughter Lily, Rhett’s daughter Kailee and son Charley, Matz’s daughter Danika, and Megan’s daughter Janelle.
Marion was preceded in death by her husband Charles “Charley” Shumway, her brother Gordon Pinney, and her parents.
