Scott Griewank, age 34, of Chadron, NE passed away on December 10, 2014 at Chadron Community Hospital. His final request was that no service be held; instead a celebration of life will take place at a later date. Scott was born August 24, 1980 in Ypsilanti, MI, to Bill and Dianne Griewank. He grew up in Lagrange, IN, where he graduated from the Lakeland school system and began a family with Leslie Huff, originally of Lagrange. Scott’s pride and joy were his three beautiful children, Anabell, age 7; Rowan, age 5; and Kami, soon to be age 3.

 

As an adult, he and his family relocated to Chadron, NE, where he began a career with the Nebraska State Parks Department. Though he left Michigan early, Scott was a loyal University of Michigan fan and proudly cheered on their sports teams despite living in Cornhusker territory.

 

Scott was diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma, a rare cancer of the bile ducts, in early 2012. He fought cancer with dignity and determination, fueled by his love for his family. He overcame extreme obstacles along the way and did so with a smile and kind word in the face of his health issues. He used his final years to build memories with his children and family, and to nurture friendships that will last those who miss him a lifetime. Scott made the most of every day and was always eager to find the joy and adventure life had to offer. He and his three children loved all things outdoors and he was an avid hiker, who took pride in hiking as many major trail systems as he could throughout the United States. Though rarely one to ask for help, Scott was very grateful to the amazing community members and family members that helped him and his family.

 

Scott is survived by his children, Anabell, Rowan, and Kami; his parents, Bill and Dianne Griewank; his brother Brandon Griewank, and brother-in-law, Kevin Winston Elliott; and his sister, Wendy Underwood; as well as two nephews, Lance and Lee Underwood.
