Funeral services for Alden Leon Brewer Sr., age 61, at 2:00 PM on Thursday, April 16, 2015 at the Rockyford School Gym in Rockyford, SD with Father Rick Abert, S.J. officiating.
Burial will be at St. Paul’s Catholic Cemetery in Porcupine, SD.
A two-night wake service will start at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at the Rockyford School Gym in Rockyford.
Alden passed away on April 9, 2015 in Pine Ridge, SD. He was born on December 29, 1953 in Pine Ridge, SD to Evelynn M. Twiss-Brewer and Philip N. Brewer. He was one of 12 children. He attended grade school at Holy Rosary Mission from 1st grade to 7th grade and graduated 8th grade in Florida. He then returned to 9th grade back at HolyRosaryHigh School and graduated12th grade at Holy Rosary in 1972.
Alden played football and was an adventurous young man. He then traveled the states. His ability to finish school was important to him. He received his journeyman in 1984. He traveled to New York, then returned back to Rapid City. Leon met his first wife, Sharon Martinez, and married her in Las Vegas. They had Jerry Brewer in 1976. Soon after he lost his wife in 1976, he joined the Union Local 1250 in 1977 and started at Checkers Electric Company. In 1979, he met Mona Steele and had Jennifer Brewer in 1983 and Alden Jr. in 1988. Alden and Mona were married in 1996. Alden raised Victor Shoulders and Victoria Shoulders like his own children.
He received his Master Craftmanship award in 1990. He accomplished his dream and started his own company, “Red Pipe Electric,” in 2002. He worked numerous places and wired many buildings with his boys, such as MandersonSchool, Little Wound School, Rosebud, EagleButteSchool, OglalaSchool, SiouxNationShopping Center, RockyfordSchool, Kyle Jail, PorcupineSchool, DialysisCenter in Sharps Corner, and many more places. He was an electrician for 36 years. He enjoyed his job and loved working. He retired in 2011 due to health complications. He taught a lot of people what he knew. He welcomed in everyone, and treated them like family.
Alden is survived by the joy of his life, Mona (Steele) Brewer of Porcupine, SD; brother Edwin Brewer of Sharps Corner; sisters Rose LaRose of Las Vegas, NV, Ellen LaRoche of Rapid City, SD, Donna Bradford of Rapid City, SD, and Myrna Bradford of Rapid City, SD; children Victor Shoulders of Porcupine, SD, Jerry Brewer of Oglala, SD, Victoria Shoulders of Sharps Corner, Jennifer Brewer of Rockyford, SD, and Alden Brewer Jr. of Rockyford, SD; and grandchildren Diongelo Moreno of Sioux Falls, SD, Valentino Brewer of Sioux Falls, SD, Brittney Zieggman of Rapid City, SD, Paulinia Brewer of Oglala, SD, Leon Brewer of Sioux Falls, SD, Harlee Brewer of Sioux Falls, SD, Jaden Brewer of Rockyford, SD, Veronica Shoulders of Porcupine, SD, Alden Brewer III of Hayward, CA, Joey Gomez of Sharps Corner, Alexander Gomez of Sharps Corner, and Tomi Lee Blue Bird of Sharps Corner, SD.
Alden was preceded in death by father Philip Brewer Sr.; mother Evelyn Twiss-Brewer; siblings Cecelia Steele, Donny Cottier Sr., Carol Wright, and John Brewer; and close friends Buzzy Steele, Frank Steele, Donny Harward, Terry Hemerger, Farrion Runs Against, Jim Steele, Buddy Red Bow, Buddy Jumping Elk, and Tom Patton.
Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge, SD is in charge of arrangements for Alden Leon Brewer Sr.
