06/01/2015 - Irene Hughes

An Inurnment service for Irene Hughes will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver, Colorado on Monday June 1, 2015 at 11:00 am.

Irene Victoria Hughes, 83, passed away Sunday, May 17, 2015 at the Ponderosa Villa in Crawford. She was born on November 12, 1931 in Minden to Leland and Margaret Robb. She graduated from Minden High School in 1949 and attended Kearney State Teachers College. Irene was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary and served as Post #94 President for two years, she also served as a District President as well as Chairman of several State Boards and Committees. She was lifetime member of the VFW and DAV Auxiliaries as well as a member of The Daughters of the American Revolution.

Irene was a long time Civil Service employee, she started her service at the Naval Ammunition Depot in Hastings, NE, later she worked at Fitzsimons Army Hospital Commissary, Denver CO as accounts payable clerk. She transferred to Rocky Mountain Arsenal, Denver, CO serving as Travel Clerk, Accounting Technician and finally retiring as Deputy Finance Officer.

Irene is survived by her son, Wayne Anderson and his wife Sandra of Chadron NE, her daughter Brenda Anderson of Wichita KS , her grandson Michael Anderson and his wife Michelle of Golden CO, her granddaughter Anita Robin, husband Steve and great grandson Gage Robin of Wichita KS. Irene was preceded in death by her husband Ithyl E. (Sparky)Hughes and her grandson Eric Francis Robin.

Cards and memorials may be sent to Chamberlain Chapel, Box 970, Chadron NE 69337; memorial funds received will be given to American Legion Auxiliary Post #12 in her name.
