Funeral services for 45-year-old Maureen Andrea Janis, of Winner, SD, will be at 11 am on Thursday, May 21, at the Brother Rene Hall in Oglala, SD, with Pastor Karen Rupp officiating. Traditional Lakota services will be provided by Mr. Stanley Good Voice Elk.
Burial will be at St. Peter’s Episcopal Cemetery in Oglala, SD.
A one-night wake service will begin at 3 pm on Wednesday, May 19, at the Brother Rene Hall in Oglala.
Maureen, the oldest daughter of Muriel Blacksmith and George Janis, was born on February 20, 1970 in Huron, SD, and she lived in Winner, SD throughout her life. She passed away on May 11, 2015 at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.

Brothers, Hermis Janis of Manderson, SD, Eric Janis of Porcupine, SD, Jon Blacksmith of Oglala, SD, Lucian and Michael Jimenez of Chicago, IL, Ed Janis, Vincent Harrison, and Sam Tall all of Manderson, SD
Maternal grandmother, Delores Blacksmith of Oglala, SD
Sisters, Rose Marie Bordeaux, Monique Alcott, Delphine Lays Bad all of Oglala, SD; Prairie Looks Twice of Rapid City, SD Lisa Janis, Sina Tall, and Aubry Tall all of Manderson, SD
Numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Maureen was preceded in death by her father, George Janis-Tall, and brothers Chuku Jimenez, Marlin White Plume and Tony Harrison.
Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge is in charge of arrangements.
