Funeral services for Orval Leonard Weyers, age 81, of Hay Springs, NE, will be at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Hay Springs, NE with Father Joseph K. Joseph and Father Tim Stoner officiating.
Burial will be at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Mirage Flats.
A rosary will be at 7:00 PM on Monday, June 22, 2015 at the church.
A memorial has been established for the Hay Springs Pool Fund or the Lister Sage maintenance committee, and donations may be sent to Chamberlain Drabbels Mortuary, PO Box 443, Hay Springs, NE 69347.

Orval passed away on June 19, 2015. He was born on August 30, 1933, the youngest of four children to Pete and Annie Weyers of Hay Springs. He lived and died in the house where he was born.
Orval attended a one-room schoolhouse, RiverView, for his grade school years. He boarded in Hay Springs for his high school years. In 1955, he graduated from the University of Nebraska Ag College with a degree in Conservation. Upon graduation through the Army ROTC, he was stationed in Germany and France. After he completed his military service, he and an Army buddy purchased a small French car (the Citroen) and traveled through southern Europe, the Middle East and Southern Asia to India. They returned back to the US via an American oil tanker upon which their wages were one cent per month. In 1959, Orval began working for the Kimball, NE-based Soil Conservation Service. In March 1960, he quit to begin operating the family farm. In the summer of 1961, he married Mary Anderson, whom he had met on a blind date. They spent 54 years together.
Orval delighted in being involved in the community. He joined the NFO (National Farmers Organization). He was on the Sheridan County Fair Board and the Alliance Coop board of directors (now Westco). He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and enjoyed assisting with the District 30 “PlayDay.” He served 24 years on the District 30 School board, most of the time as president. He served on the Sheridan County School Reorganization Committee. He was a member of St. Columbkille Catholic Church, where he assisted with the finance committee, the maintenance committee, and the annual Appeals Program. He lectured and serviced as Eucharistic minister. He was also active in the American Legion, where he served as commander from 2003-2014.
Orval is survived by wife Mary Weyers; son Neal Weyers and wife Twila Weyers; daughter Sonya Robinette and husband Jerry Robinette; four grandsons Austin Weyers (Morgan), Garrett Weyers, JJ Jara, and Jacob Jara (Tiniqua); one great-grandchild; and brothers Leo Weyers (Idonna) and Louis Weyers (Linda).
