James went to be with his heavenly father on August 21, 2015 at Chadron Community Hospital. He was born December 12, 1956 in Santa Cruz, CA. As a youngster, he lived in the small coastal town of Davenport, CA. Davenport’s nickname was “A Whale of a Town.”

Before school age, the Harper family moved to White House Canyon, CA. James attended Pescadero Elementary School and graduated from Pescadero High in June 1975. After high school, he attended Cabrillo College in Soquel, CA.

Jim worked in the computer field for several years as a quality control inspector and technician. He was a member of Calvary Chapel Church in Capitola, CA. After moving to Crawford, NE on May 2, 2014, he joined the Christ Community Church in Crawford. Jim loved God and was very knowledgeable on the Bible. He enjoyed intercessory prayer every Wednesday and never missed a Sunday at church unless due to bad weather.

Jim was always willing to help others. He was a very loving, gentle, quiet man with a big heart. He loved family time, especially with children, nieces, nephews, and church family. Jim enjoyed talking, laughing, joking, and BBQs. He would always say, “Just show the steak to the flame, and it’s done.” That’s a memory!

Preceding Jim in death was father James Curtis Harper on June 19th, 1989.

Survivors include mother Elta Harper of Belmont, NE; sister Elizabeth (Larry) Castro of Belmont, NE; niece Sarah (Jordan) Raben, Shawn and Jaclyn of Chadron, NE; niece Ashley (Josh) Goff, Chloe and Aiden of Rapid City, SD; brother Chuck (Christine) Harper, Joseph and Julia of White House Canyon, CA; aunt Alverda Orlando of Capitola, CA; cousins Rosemarie Holbert and family of Visalia, CA, Lucia Quann and family of Santa Cruz, CA, and Louisa Haddad and family of Santa Cruz, CA.
