Gordon was called home by the Greater Spirit on September 3, 2015 in Rapid City, SD, surrounded by his family. He was born at home on February 3, 1933 to Blanche (Wilcox) Amiotte and Emery C. Amiotte at Buzzard Creek, Long Valley, SD.
Gordon was an exceptional cowboy, horseman, and rancher all of his life. He dearly loved every one of his family members and all the animals he ever raised or owned, for example, his pets whom he worried about up to the moment he was called away.
Throughout his time on earth, Gordon taught his children and grandchildren all values and virtues, instilled in them that education was important, and above all, he taught them to always be responsible, and that a little hard work would take them a long way in life. He also mentored many young cowboys, teaching them to work hard and live the Lakota Cowboy way.
Gordon was a sincere man and highly regarded by many people who were part of his blessed life. He was a respected elder in his community and valued by those who came to know him. He loved to share his life’s adventures and experiences with his family and friends, consisting of hard work, humor and gritty times since he was 14 years old. There were stories that were saddening and heart wrenching, but always humor with a lesson to be learned from every conversation. Gordon will be greatly missed by all of those that knew him and especially by his family who adored him.
Gordon was preceded in death by parents Emery and Blanche Amiotte, brother Wallace Amiotte, sisters Gloria Amiotte-Dillion, Beulah Amiotte-Fay, Irene Amiotte-Lessert, and Mabel Amiotte-Wounded Head, and sons whom he dearly missed, Donald “Sonny” Amiotte and Barry Amiotte.
He is survived by wife Sheryl Amiotte, brother Roger Amiotte, children Donna Amiotte, Bobby (Jeanette) Amiotte, Billy Amiotte, Dianne (Billy) Amiotte-Seidel, and Doreen Amiotte, stepson Travis Gere, adopted son Jim Meeks, 18 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
