Funeral services for William Gene Hanneman, age 76, will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 12, 2015 at the Batesland School Gymnasium in Batesland, SD with Reverend Rhoda Mesteth and Lay Reader Ben Feather Earring officiating.
Burial will be at the Knight Cemetery in Batesland, SD.
A one-night wake service will start at 7:00 PM on Friday, September 11, 2015 at the Batesland School Gymnasium in Batesland.
William passed away on September 4, 2015 in Gordon, NE. He was a veteran in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include:
William was born on July 28, 1939 in Pine Ridge, SD to William and Sophia Hanneman. He attended high school in Gordon, NE and Martin, SD. He was a lifelong resident of Batesland, SD where he farmed and ranched. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War.
Bill enjoyed his occupation and had a special passion for his horses and rock hunting. He raised many fine horses. He also enjoyed the mules, goats and llamas he kept at his farm. He gathered some of the finest petrified wood, turtles, rare rocks and minerals. He also had a huge collection of owls.
Bill is survived by sisters Lois Swanson of Gordon, NE and Patricia Emrick of Hot Springs, SD; brothers Terry Hanneman of Lincoln, NE and Alan Hanneman of Batesland, SD; many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by parents William and Sophia Hanneman; sister Judy Temple; and nephews A.D. and Jeff Temple and William Yellow Hair.
Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge, SD is in charge of arrangements for William Gene Hanneman.
