10/13/2015 - Rev. Agnes Tyon

Funeral services for Reverend Agnes Lucille Tyon, age 82, will be at 9:00 AM on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at the Brother Rene Hall in Oglala, SD with Reverend Lyle Noisy Hawk officiating.
 
Burial will be at 2:30 PM on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, SD.
 
A one-night wake service will start at 2:00 PM on Monday, October 12, 2015 at the Brother Rene Hall in Oglala.
 
Agnes passed away on October 3, 2015 in Rapid City, SD. She did her theological studies in the Native School of Ministry Program through the Vancouver School of Theology in Vancouver, Canada. She was ordained a deacon on October 12, 1993 by Bishop Harold Jones and was ordained a priest on October 17, 1997 by Bishop Creighton Robertson. She served churches on the Pine Ridge Reservation as well as St. Katherine’s Church in Martin, SD.
 
Agnes was employed with the Bureau of Indian Affairs for 35 years and the Oglala Sioux Tribe for 15 years, along with her work as an Episcopal Reverend before retiring.
 
Survivors include:
Son Gene Tyon Jr. of Rapid City, SD
Hunka daughters Gladys Jefferson and Sandy Shields of Crow, MT, Stephanie Charging Eagle of Red Scaffold, SD and Cis Kills Small-Big Crow of Pine Ridge, SD
Grandchildren Joe Tyon, William Burritt, Mary Jo Huff, Amy Painter and Melanie Tyon
Seventeen great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews
 
She was preceded in death by parents William Gibbons Sr. and Elsie Good Medicine-Sun Bear, husband Eugene Tyon Sr., 10 siblings, and son Acorn Tyon.
 
Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge, SD is in charge of arrangements for Reverend Agnes Lucille Tyon.
