Graveside services for Donald Alvin Macumber, age 78, of Gordon, NE will be at 2:00 PM on Friday, October 16, 2015 at Mt. Hope Cemetery south of Gordon, NE with Pastor Bill Combs officiating.

Don passed away October 10, 2015 at his home. He was born March 10, 1937 to James and Mable (King) Macumber in Gordon, NE. He grew up southeast of Gordon in the Sandhills. Donald attended elementary school in rural Cherry County. He then went to high school in Curtis, NE, where he graduated in 1955.
He married Phyllis Sandoz on October 18, 1957, and to this union six sons were born: Donald Jr., James, Gregory, Quentin, Marvin, and Douglas.
During the course of his life, Donald worked for Sheridan Dairy and the Aarens’ Ranch, then moved to Lander, WY, where he worked on the ranch with his father. He returned to the Gordon area in the spring of 1961, working for Nebraska Beef Packers for 15 years and then driving a gas truck for Hix Oil for 23 years until retirement in 2001.
Donald had a great love for the outdoors, including hunting, fishing, and gardening (while cussing the weeds), and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors who are grateful to have shared life with him are wife of almost 58 years Phyllis Macumber of Gordon; sons Gregory Macumber of Gordon, Quentin (Cindy Kearns) Macumber of Wheat Ridge, CO, Marvin (LaWanda Rundback) Macumber of Rushville, and Douglas (Mandy) Macumber of Redfield, SD; grandchildren Kirk, Trevor, Niki, and Kristi Macumber; great-grandchildren Kiara, Kingston, Alorah, Kodin, and Lexi Macumber and Colton Derrick; nephews Justin and Marlin Sandoz and Bret Otis; niece Brenda Otis; aunt Helen King of Missouri; and numerous cousins.
Donald was preceded in death by grandparents Ora and Mary King and James and Glen Macumber; parents James and Mable Macumber; sons Donald Jr, and James; brother Richard Macumber; and sister Karen D’Orange.
Chamberlain-Pier Funeral Home of Gordon is in charge of arrangements for Donald Alvin Macumber.
