10/19/2015 - Hope Pamilla Martin
Funeral services for Hope Pamilla Martin, age 67, will be at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 19, 2015 at the Billy Mills Hall in Pine Ridge, SD with Reverend Harold Eagle Bull officiating.
Burial will be at the Holy Cross Episcopal Cemetery in Pine Ridge, SD.
A one-night wake service will begin at 3:00 PM on Sunday, October 18, 2015 at the Billy Mills Hall in Pine Ridge, SD.
Hope journeyed from this life into eternity at Rapid City Regional Hospital early Tuesday morning, October 13, 2015. She was born in Scottsbluff, NE on April 26, 1948 to Joe Quijas and Jewel Frazier and later moved to Pine Ridge, SD. She attended BraynerdIndianSchool through her middle and high school years. She met the love of her life Darrell in 1969, and during their whirlwind romance they were blessed with four children: Dana, Darrell Jr., Elizabeth, and Christopher Whiting. Hope worked for Pine Ridge I.H.S. for 29 years in the Medical Records Department doing an assortment of different jobs until she realized her true calling was helping people and started working in the Health Information Department. She always had a kind ear for listening to people’s problems when they needed help or guidance. She was a warm, gentle-hearted soul with a big heart. Hope was a beautiful person, not only on the outside, but truly deep on the inside. Hope was on the verge of retirement; October 30, 2015 would’ve been her last day of employment at Pine Ridge I.H.S. when she was taken suddenly from her family and her friends. She will live on in their hearts and in the memories she gave them.
Hope is survived by husband of 46 years Darrell Martin Sr. of Pine Ridge, SD; children Dana (Lonnie) Martin-Waters of Chadron, NE, Darrell Martin Jr., Elizabeth (Cesar) Martin-Lopez, and Christopher (Sylvia) Whiting, all of Pine Ridge, SD; grandchildren Darrell (Jess) Martin III of Rapid City, SD, Anissa Martin of Pine Ridge, SD, Tre’C Cayou of Chadron, NE, Rodney Martin, Andre Martin, and Ciara Martin, all of Pine Ridge, SD, Joe Waters of Chadron, NE, and Cesar Lopez III of Pine Ridge, SD; great-grandsons Darrell Martin IV and Jaden Martin of Rapid City, SD; brothers Albert Quijas of Bakersfield, CA, Leon LaCota III and Samuel Means of Pine Ridge, SD; sisters Janet Quijas of St. Cloud, MN, Wilberta Means of Pine Ridge, SD, Nancy Quijas of Bakersfield, CA, Kathy Means of Nespelem, WA, and Wanda Walking of Pine Ridge, SD; and Hunka sisters Marlys Rabbit of Pine Ridge, SD.
Hope was preceded in death father Joe Quijas; mother Jewel Frazier; brothers Philip and Leslie Follows Road, and Wesley Means; and sisters Johnette Follows Road, Martha Apple, and Karen Means.
Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge, SD is in charge of arrangements for Hope Pamilla Martin.
