11/18/2015 - John Phillip Stewart

Funeral services for John Phillip Stewart “Umpa Wicahpi Hoksila,” age 48, will be at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at the Brother Rene Hall in Oglala, SD with Sister Barb officiating. Traditional Lakota services will be provided by Sam Moves Camp.
 
Burial services Our Lady of the Sioux Catholic Cemetery in Oglala, SD.
 
A two-night wake service will begin at 1:00 PM on Monday, November 16, 2015 at the Brother Rene Hall in Oglala.
 
John passed away on November 7, 2015 in Pine Ridge, SD. He was born on February 22, 1967 in Scottsbluff, NE to Dorothy Marie (Brings Him Back) and Estes Stewart. He was the youngest of six, including Betty Stewart Not Help Him, Pearl Marie Stewart (deceased), Debra Annette Stewart, Alfreda Eunice Stewart, and Stacy Lawrence Stewart. 
 
John’s parents lived and worked in Scottsbluff, NE, where John grew up. Later on in life, John met Dora Two Bulls. From this union, Jonathan and Anthony were born. He later met Delia Bane, and from this union, Kimmimila was born. John loved all his children; many stories were told about their births and lives.
 
John loved the outdoors, singing, and Lakota culture. He was always willing to help in any way he could.
 
John was preceded in death by ex-wife Dora Two Bulls; mother Dorothy (Brings Him Back) Stewart; father Estes Stewart; paternal grandparents Estes Stewart Sr. and Eunice Stewart; maternal grandparents Phillip and Nancy Brings Him Back; sister Pearl Maria Stewart; and niece Casey Deanna Belt.
 
John is survived by son Anthony Stewart of Pine Ridge, SD; daughter Kimmimila Stewart of Tuba City, AZ; sisters Betty Not Help Him, Debra Stewart, and Alfreda Stewart; brother Stacy Stewart; grandson Andreas Jonathan Stewart; hunka mother Emma White Wolf-Waters; hunka sisters Donna Waters and Steph Waters; hunka brothers Thomas Waters, John Waters, Raymond Waters, and John Waters; and numerous nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. 
 
Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge, SD is in charge of arrangements for John Phillip Stewart “Umpa Wicahpi Hoksila.”
