11/29/2015 - Gregory William Butler

A small family service was held for Gregory William Butler, age 63,  on Thursday, November 19, 2015. He passed away on November 17, 2015 at his home in Chadron, NE.

Online condolences can be made at www.chamberlainchapel.com.

Greg was born on June 10, 1952 in Detroit, MI and later grew up in Mentor, OH. He graduated from Hocking College in Ohio with a degree in Forestry. He took a summer job with the Forest Service in the Panhandle of Nebraska in 1977, although on his trip out here, he doubted there was a forest. He fell in love with the area and never left. He worked several construction jobs throughout his life and recently retired from Chadron State College after 26 years. He left his mark on his family, friends, and community with his carpentry skills and knowledge. He loved the outdoors through hunting, fishing, and camping.

He married Julie Thies on October 15, 1994. One of their greatest accomplishments was building their own home in rural Chadron.

His survivors include wife Julie; daughter Jill (Sean) Craig; granddaughters Piper, Paiton, and Parker; sisters Amy (Tony) Dapore and Ann (Joel) Samsone; the Thies family-Imogene, Jeff & Teresa, Doug & Sandy, Tony & Nyla, and Jay & Mary; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and great friends and hunting buddies.

The family would like to acknowledge the kindness and support of Pastor Russ Seger and Home Health and Hospice Services.

Chamberlain Chapel of Chadron is in charge of arrangements for Gregory William Butler.
