Funeral services for William Whirlwind Horse, age 74, will be at 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at the American Horse School in Allen, SD with Father Rick Abert S.J. officiating. Traditional Lakota services will be provided by Michael Cross.
Burial will be at St. John of the CrossCemetery in Allen, SD.
A one-night wake service will begin at 4:00 PM on Friday, January 8, 2016 at the American Horse School in Allen, SD.
William passed away on December 31, 2015 in Martin, SD.
He was a veteran in the U.S. Army.
William was born on March 14, 1941 in Allen, SD to John and Molly (Six Feathers) Whirlwind Horse. He passed away on December 31, 2015 at the BennettCountyHospital and Nursing Home in Martin, SD.
William is survived by sons Moses Whirlwind Horse of Lino Lakes, MN, Tyrone Marshall of Wyoming, Tancrede Hamel of Sioux Falls, SD, Derek Marshall of Allen, SD, and Gary Bad Wound of Minot, ND; daughters Martha Whirlwind Horse, Molly Whirlwind Horse, Claudine Whirlwind Horse, and Neva Hamel, all of Allen, SD, Crystal Whirlwind Horse of Rapid City, SD, and Ella Spotted Elk of Arizona; brother Russell Whirlwind Horse of Allen, SD; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
William was preceded in death by parents John and Molly Whirlwind Horse; spouse Shirley Marshall; brothers Albert Whirlwind Horse and Raymond Whirlwind Horse; sisters Julia, Verda, Verna, and Millie Whirlwind Horse; daughters Chelsea Marshall and Susanne Runs Along The Edge; and grandson Steven Hunter.
Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge, SD is in charge of arrangements for William Whirlwind Horse.
