01/19/2016 - Agnes Lavern Mattson

Agnes Lavern Mattson entered into eternal peace on Friday, January 8, 2016 at Crestview Care Center in Chadron, NE.

At Agnes’ request, services will be held at the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, SD at a later date.

Agnes often celebrated births as well as gave a memorial of those who passed by planting trees through the Arbor Day Foundation. It was her wish that those who would like to celebrate her life have a tree planted for future generations by contacting the Arbor Day Foundation at 100 Arbor Avenue, Nebraska City, NE 68410 or at 888-448-7337.

Agnes was born on April 6, 1925, a daughter of the late Thomas and Dolly Aspden. After she graduated from Hay Springs High School, she moved to Rapid City, SD to attend Business College.

Rapid City is where she met the love of her life, Howard Mattson. Howard and Agnes were married on November 20, 1946. They spent the majority of their working years in California, enjoying time with each other and the many friends they made along the way.

Agnes returned to her roots in Nebraska to be with family in 1996. She loved to travel and the wonderful memories of the many trips she had taken in the states and abroad that were enjoyed by family and friends. Agnes loved life and started each day with prayer, knowing the Lord was her light.

She was preceded in death by beloved husband of 47 years Howard; siblings Albert, Pauline, Dorothy, Alice; and niece Vicki.

She leaves her loving memories to be cherished by many nephews, nieces and friends.
