Funeral services for Jonathan Charles Bull Bear “Wohokiza Ska” (White Lance), age 27, will be at 2:00 PM on Monday, January 25, 2016 at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church Hall in Kyle, SD with Deacon Harold Condon officiating. Traditional Lakota services will be provided by Richard Broken Nose and Jerome LeBeaux.
Burial will be at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church Cemetery in Kyle, SD.
A two-night wake service will begin with the first night at 5:00 PM on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at the Little Wound School Auditorium. The second night will start at 12:00 PM on Sunday, January 24, 2016 at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church Hall in Kyle, SD.
Jonathan was born on July 1, 1988 at Rapid CityRegionalHospital in Rapid City, SD to Linda Bull Bear and stepfather Richard Broken Nose. Jonathan passed away on January 18, 2016 in Rapid City, SD.
Jonathan went to Little Wound School his middle school years and then transferred to PineRidgeSchool for his high school years. After high school, Jonathan moved to Rapid City to work various jobs such as carpentry and roofing & labor.
Jonathan was given an Indian name ceremony by his grandmother, Eva Good Crow Bull Bear White Lance; his grandpa John White Lance gave him his name to carry on. Jonathan’s middle name, Charles, was given to him by his uncle, Steven Charles Good Crow. He was involved in the 500 mile run along and also believed in his Lakota way of life throughout his entire life.
Jonathan is survived by sons Royal, Timothy, and Jonathan Jr., all of Rapid City, SD; special friend Andrea Cortier of Rapid City, SD; mother Linda Bull Bear of #4, SD; stepfather Richard Broken Nose of #4, SD; sisters Jolene (Milton) Around Him, Jodi (Alan) Bull Bear, Joni (Stan) Little Boy, Duwana (Derek) Star, and Jovan (James) Big Crow; brothers Terry (Dawn) Bull Bear, Ben Bull Bear, Ray (Jojo) Bull Bear, and Troy (Claudia) Bull Bear; seven nieces; and nine nephews.
Jonathan was preceded in death by grandparents Royal and Eva Bull Bear; uncles Adolph, Ray Vance, Pete, and Timothy Bull Bear; aunties Verine Clifford and Arlene Bull Bear; and niece Annisa Around Him.
