Funeral services for Emily Anne Blue Bird “Wicahpi Sakowin Winyan” (7 Stars Woman), age 24, will be at 2:00 PM on Friday, January 29, 2016 at the Billy Mills Hall in Pine Ridge, SD. Traditional Lakota services will be provided by Thomas Cheyenne and Guy Dull Knife; AIM Grassroots.
Burial will be at the Porcupine Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Porcupine, SD.
A two-night wake service will start at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at the Billy Mills Hall in Pine Ridge, SD.
Emily was born on August 23, 1991 in Sioux Falls, SD to Belleron Blue Bird and Lucille White Dress. She passed away on January 21, 2016 in Pine Ridge, SD.
Emily is survived by mother Lucille White Dress of Pine Ridge, SD; father Belleron Blue Bird Sr. of Pine Ridge, SD; children Aysa Blue Bird and Makayla Blue Bird of Pine Ridge, SD; brothers Belleron Blue Bird Jr., Timothy White Dress Sr., Richard Blue Bird and William Blue Bird, all of Pine Ridge, SD; sisters Karyn Mesteth of Rapid City, SD, and Terri Blue Bird, Belle Roberta Blue Bird, Catherine Blue Bird, and Layla White Dress, all of Pine Ridge, SD; maternal grandfather Francis White Dress Sr. of Kyle, SD; paternal grandparents Richard & Ethleen Two Dogs of Porcupine, SD and Edna Apple of Pine Ridge, SD; and special best friend Joshua Wanamaker of California.
Emily was preceded in death by brother Asa James Blue Bird; paternal grandmother Theodora Tail; paternal grandfather Bryan Blue Bird Sr.; and maternal grandmother Adeline Sun Bear.
