Funeral services for Wayne Francis McGown will be at 10:00 AM on Thursday, February 11, 2016 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Crawford with Father Bernard Berger officiating. 
 
A visitation will be at 7:00 PMon Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at Chamberlain Chapel in Crawford.
 
A memorial has been established for the Crawford Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Unit. Donations may be sent to Chamberlain Chapel, PO Box 970, Chadron, NE 69337.

Wayne passed away on February 6, 2016 at Chadron Community Hospital. He was born on September 15, 1945 in Broken Bow, NE, the son of Frank and Sara (Beno) McGown.
 
Wayne was raised on the family farm south of Anselmo, NE in the Eureka Valley area. He graduated from Anselmo Merna High School in 1964. He then attended Grand Island School of Commerce in 1966 and received a two-year associate’s degree.
 
He married Ella Jean Hancock on May 27, 1967. Wayne was employed in Maintenance at New Holland in Grand Island for over 33 years. In 1968, Wayne moved his family to Cairo, NE and then to Crawford to retire.
 
In 2015, Wayne was awarded the Upper Niobrara White Natural Resource District’s Charlie Snook Memorial Tree Planting Conservation Award. He was a member of the Crawford Eagles Club. 
 
Wayne enjoyed hunting, fishing and tending to his ranch in Crawford. He also enjoyed spending time on the ranch with his children and grandchildren, teaching them the old ways of living & instilling in them a strong work ethic. He enjoyed dancing and meeting new people. Nobody was a stranger for long.
 
Survivors include daughters and sons Sharon Waters of Lincoln, NE, Brenda (Marlon) Taylor of Laurel, MD, Danniel McGown (Mike Pitts) of Lincoln, NE, and James (Megan) McGown of Brady, NE; brother Gene McGown of Anselmo, NE; uncles Kenneth McGown of Broken Bow and Tony (Betty) Beno of Minden, NE; five grandsons; four granddaughters, one great-granddaughter; four nephews; and left-hand men Trevor Nelson and Steve Green of Crawford.
 
Wayne was preceded in death by his aunts, uncles, and parents.
 
Chamberlain Chapel of Crawford is in charge of arrangements for Wayne Francis McGown.
