Funeral services for Gabriel Dean Standing Soldier “Maka Ekta Hi’najin” (He Comes to Stand on the Earth), age 21, will be at 2:00 PM on Monday, February 15, 2016 at the Wolf Creek School in Pine Ridge, SD. Traditional Lakota services will be provided by Ty Lunderman, Joe Giago, and Thomas Cloud Horse.
Burial will be at the Wolf Creek Community Cemetery in Pine Ridge, SD.
A two-night wake service will begin at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at the Wolf Creek School in Pine Ridge, SD.
Gabriel was born on December 11, 1994 in Pine Ridge, SD to Myron Cross and Josephine Standing Soldier. He passed away on February 5, 2016 in Pine Ridge, SD.
Gabriel is survived by mother Josephine Standing Soldier of Pine Ridge, SD; brothers Jaimie White Plume of Allen, SD and Daniel Crow and Timmy Poor Bear of Pine Ridge, SD; sisters Jessica Crow and Stephanie Crow of Wolf Creek in Pine Ridge, SD and Charlie Little and Letitia Poor Bear of Pine Ridge, SD; special friend Sage Black Feather of Pine Ridge, SD; daughters Lanayah and Larayah Standing Soldier of Pine Ridge, SD; grandmothers Darlene Poor Bear of Allen, SD, Pearl Monroe of Kyle, SD and Eleanor Charging Crow of Wanblee, SD; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Gabriel was preceded in death by father Myron Cross; niece Christina White Magpie; grandparents Walter and Geraldine Standing Soldier; great-grandparents James Charging Crow and Bertha Grass Rope; and great-great-grandparents Hobert and Mabel Standing Soldier.
