02/24/2016 - Mark Henry DuBray Sr.
Funeral services for Mark Henry DuBray Sr., age 50, will be at 11:00 AM (CT) on Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at the He Dog School in Parmelee, SD with Mother Lauren Stanley officiating.
Burial will be at the 3/Q DuBray Ranch in Parmelee, SD.
A viewing service will be from 12:00-4:00 PM (CT) on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at the Allen Youth Center.
A wake service will begin at 5:00 PM (CT) at the He Dog School in Parmelee, SD.
Mark was born on April 21, 1965 in Pine Ridge, SD, the youngest son of Seth Sr. and Altine DuBray. He was raised by his grandparents, Charles Jr. and Katherine DuBray of Allen, SD, and his crony, Jerry, who was his partner in crime. Mark saddled up and rode away leaving this worldly life on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at his home in Parmelee, SD. He was a veteran in the U.S. Navy.
Mark grew up as a man’s man…nothing he couldn’t do or try, and he helped many with his handiwork. Mark was a horseman by trait; he broke horses, raced horses, and raised horses with his family. Mark was part of his dad’s boxing team and was a chicken and traditional dancer. He loved to fish and was an avid fisherman. He also enjoyed rodeos, participating with his brothers in Wild Horse Racing, and traveling with his grandpa Joe & Waln Rodeo Company. He enjoyed watching the baseball games locally, always cheering on everyone. Basketball was an all-time favorite and especially cheering on his favorite football team, the DALLAS COWBOYS!
Mark attended school at He Dog Elementary with all his childhood friends and relatives. He went to high school at ToddCounty and graduated from St. Francis Indian School. There were many highlights from his high school sports, but one of the most vivid memories was the 1982 LNI Basketball Championship Win with his SFIS teammates. Mark was honored at the LNI Tournament on his accomplishment. He was a member of the FFA and 4-H Club in high school. Mark went to college and graduated with high honors, obtaining his degree in Diesel Mechanics. Then he enlisted in the United States Navy on a whim, a bet with his brother Seth (Boob). Mark became an Avionics Technician on a naval carrier and became a world traveler in Japan, Venezuela, and Hawaii. He was stationed at Pensacola and Jacksonville, Florida serving in the Desert Storm/Desert Shield Campaign.
Mark returned home and worked at RST Sand & Gravel, RST Road Department, construction in the building of the Mni Wiconi pipelines & driving trucks, Prairie Knights’ Casino Maintenance and SWA Comp Grant. Mark just helped out to keep busy after his health would not permit him to work, so ranching, repairing things, carpentry and mechanic work always found him.
Mark was blessed in his journey with his children Jerome Henry (Jerry), Mark Jr., his beautiful daughters Kaneesha Louise & Taneesha Pearl and youngest son Seth. Mark lost his eldest son Jerry in the fall of 2007, bringing a different challenge to his life, raising his grandchildren Jerome Jr. (Woody) and Katherine (Kitty) until his health would not let him after an ATV accident. He enjoyed watching them and will be greatly missed by all his children and grandchildren.
Mark lived his worldly life to the fullest. Each day was not guaranteed or meant to be taken for granted. He lived well and blazed his trail, leaving stories and memories with everyone to carry on and remember him!
Mark is survived by his wonderful legacy of children and grandchildren Tiara, Woody & Katherine, Mark Jr. (Doobie), Chandler & Wanbli of New Town, ND, Kaneesha (Sonny Sharpfish), Rachael, Malik and Prairie Rose of Parmelee, SD, Taneesha (Phillip Frazier), and Robert and Gabrielle of Riverton, WY; siblings Paul Leader Charge of Parmelee, SD, Rachael DuBray (Charles Wilkinson) of White Shield ND, Prairie Rose (Don Chapin) of New Town, ND; aunts and uncles Carl Waln, Bruce Young, Sharyn Austin, Diane Stone, Sam DuBray, Hazel Wilson, Melissa Yellow Boy, Irene DuBray, Eula (Melvin) Young and Art, and Charles and Robert Zimiga; grandmothers Dorothy Lone Wolf, Tilden and Angie White Face, and the LeRoy and Smith families.
Mark was preceded in death by parents Seth & Altine DuBray, grandparents Charles & Katherine DuBray, Charles Young & Florence Leader Charge; brothers Harry, Seth Jr., and Jerry; and beloved son Jerome (Jerry).
