Memorial services for Charles David Conrad Hannum, age 100, will be at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at Prairie Pines Lodge in Chadron, NE with Pastor Scott Montgomery officiating.
Burial will be at the Bald Eagle Cemetery in Bald Eagle, PA, where he will be laid to rest beside his wife who preceded him in death on December 30, 1992.
A memorial has been established for Trunk Butte Christian School. Donations may be sent to Chamberlain Chapel, PO Box 970, Chadron, NE 69337.

Charlie passed away on February 27, 2016, in Chadron, NE. He was born in Williamsport, PA on November 3, 1915 to Charles Hugh and Mary (Veit) Hannum. The family moved to Altoona, PA, where he attended and graduated from Altoona High School. While still in school, he helped his dad in the family auto parts store by sweeping floors, dusting shelves, and installing lining on Model A brake shoes.
On April 13, 1942, Charlie was inducted into the Army Air Corps. After serving on several bases in the states, he was sent to Tinian in the Marianna Islands. After being discharged, he became a distributor for Almand Arc Welders in South Dakota. He lived in Rapid City and survived the blizzard of ’49. Eventually Charlie became owner of Hannum’s Auto Parts in Altoona and Clearfield, PA and opened a branch store in Phillip, SD.
He married Constance Yingling of Bellwood. PA on March 17, 1951. To this union, two daughters were born. In 1964, the family moved from Bellwood to Scottsbluff, NE, where he opened Scottsbluff Tool Warehouse. This proved to be his most enjoyable and profitable venture.
After retiring, Charlie moved back to Altoona. There he served as a volunteer in the school system. He received the Community Star Award for his volunteer work in the elementary schools in March 1995.
On August 5, 2005, he moved to Prairie Pines Lodge in Chadron where he was involved in welcoming new residents and familiarizing them with the facility. He did his best to get everyone involved in activities at the Lodge.
Charlie regularly attended Chadron Christian Church. He had a deep and abiding faith in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, which characterized the life he lived and defines the legacy he leaves behind.
He was preceded in death by wife Connie, grandson Rob Walker, and brother Kenneth Hannum. He is survived by daughters Jan (Greg) Schenbeck of Chadron and Joyce (Doug) Walker of Palm Springs, FL; grandsons Kevin Schenbeck, Colby (Michele) Schenbeck, and Kyle (Katie) Schenbeck; granddaughter Beck Walker Gill; and seven great-grandchildren.
