Funeral services for Dorene Hattie Bad Heart Bull-Yellow Hair “Wawokiye Win,” age 73, will be at 9:30 AM on Friday, March 18, 2016 at the Makasan Presbyterian Church in Oglala, SD with Reverend Simon Looking Elk officiating.
Burial will be at 2:30 PM on Friday, March 18, 2016 at the Black HillsNationalCemetery in Sturgis, SD.
A visitation service will run from 12:30-4:30 PM on Thursday, March 17, 2016 at Linda Fourd’s Residence on Mission Flats near Pine Ridge, SD.
A one-night wake service will begin at 5:00 PM on Thursday, March 17, 2016 at the Makasan Presbyterian Church in Oglala, SD.
Dorene Hattie Bad Heart Bull-Yellow Hair was born the second of twins on September 19, 1942 in Kyle, SD. She made her journey home on March 14, 2016 in Rapid City, SD. Dorene graduated from OglalaCommunityHigh School in 1961. She then continued her education at Black HillsStateUniversity and received her Bachelor’s degree in Education in 1967. She married Darrell W. Yellow Hair on October 4, 1969. Dorene spent her working career teaching, beginning with the Oglala Sioux Tribe Headstart, PineRidgeElementary School, LonemanDay School and MandersonDay School. She was always proud of her students and remembered all of them. She was an integral part of her nieces’ (Laura and Lisa Little Iron, Carmen Fourd and Jana Iron Cloud) and nephew’s (William Fourd) upbringing and as in Lakota tradition took on the role of mother to her sister’s children very seriously and proudly. She was also extremely happy to be an unci to Dorian Clifford, Suzanah and Georgiana Tsouhlarakis, Amy and Norman Fourd. She made sure her takojas had what they needed as well as what they wanted. She cherished all of her nieces and nephews and was always glad when they came to visit her.
Dorene was preceded in death by brother William Bad Heart Bull; son Terrell Yellow Hair; husband Darrell W. Yellow Hair; father Seth Bad Heart Bull; mother Vera Red Owl-Bad Heart Bull; and sister Delores Millie Iron Cloud.
Dorene is survived by brothers Timothy (Allie) Bad Heart Bull and Thomas Bad Heart Bull; sister Linda (Norman) Fourd; and nephews and nieces Craig, Matthew, Loren, Nick, Darren, Von, Kevin, Justin, Lance, Jay, Ryan, Laura, Lisa, William and Carmen.
Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge, SD is in charge of arrangements for Dorene Hattie Bad Heart Bull-Yellow Hair “Wawokiye Win.”
