Funeral services for Alvin Roland Slow Bear, age 59, will be at 10:00 AM on Sunday, April 3, 2016 at the Loneman School Gymnasium in Oglala, SD. Traditional Lakota services will be provided by Warfield Moose, Ivis Long Visitor, and Roger White Eyes.
Burial will be at the Lakeside Cemetery in Oglala, SD.
A two-night wake service will begin at 3:30 PM on Friday, April 1, 2016 at the Loneman School Gymnasium in Oglala, SD.
Alvin was born on April 5, 1956 in Pine Ridge, SD to Roland Slow Bear and Mercy Red Ear Horse. He made his journey to the Spirit World on March 26, 2016 at the IHS Hospital in Pine Ridge, SD.
Alvin is survived by brothers Steven Slow Bear of Pine Ridge, SD and Cordell Slow Bear of Hot Springs, SD; sisters Judy Slow Bear of Oglala, SD, Lois Slow Bear of Hot Springs, SD and Lorna Slow Bear of Denver, CO; aunts Vestana Red Ear Horse, Christine Lajtay, Feleta Two Bulls and Philomine Lakota, all of Oglala, SD; cousin Naomi Yellow Horse of Oglala, SD; 36 cousins; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and grandchildren.
Alvin was preceded in death by parents Roland Slow Bear and Mercy Red Ear Horse; paternal grandparents Felix Slow Bear and Mary Door; and maternal grandparents Steven Red Ear Horse Sr. and Hazel Wounded Horse.
Sioux Funeral Home, Pine Ridge, SD is in charge of arrangements for Alvin Roland Slow Bear.
