04/15/2016 - Wilma “Darlene” Muenchau

Memorial services for Wilma “Darlene” Muenchau, age 87, of Chadron, NE will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 15, 2016 at Chamberlain Chapel in Chadron.

A memorial has been established for the Chadron Fire and Rescue Department.

Darlene passed away on her birthday at Chadron Community Hospital on April 9, 2016.

She was born April 9, 1929 to Ora and Blanche Westlake in Clinton. She graduated from Rushville and lived there until she met husband Lowell Muenchau. They were married September 4, 1948. They lived in several places in Nebraska due to Lowell’s job, but finally settled in Chadron and moved to the country and eventually bought their country home.

She loved raising and working with her cattle. She always said she was a tomboy and spent most of her time outside with her livestock. She would much rather do that than cook or housekeep. She also took care of chickens and other critters throughout her life on the farm. She would take in stray cats and had several “pound cats.” Her cats were very special to her. She really loved all animals. She rode her four-wheeler checking cows and for leisure up until a few months before her death.

She was a member of the Chadron Seventh-day Adventist Church for over 60 years. Survivors include husband Lowell S. Muenchau of Chadron; sons Gary Muenchau of Chadron and Alan Muenchau of Fairfax, VA; daughter Lou Ann Muenchau of Chadron; grandchildren Christopher Muenchau, Lowell T. Muenchau, Darla Muenchau-Saine and Dana Muenchau; and great-grandchildren Michael and Natalie Saine.

Chamberlain Chapel of Chadron is in charge of arrangements for Wilma “Darlene” Muenchau.
