Mass of Christian Burial for LaVon Marie Ward, age 91, will be at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Martin, SD with Father Tyler Dennis officiating.
Burial services will be at the Martin Community Cemetery in Martin, SD.
Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 PM on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Martin, SD.
Rosary services will be at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Martin, SD.
Pallbearers will be Neal Livermont, Travis Byrne, Todd Byrne, Trent Byrne, Tony Ward, Lucas Kindvall, Danny Ward, Shayne Porch, Shawn Porch, Vernon Ward, and Jeramy Ward.
Honorary pallbearers will be Stevie Uhlir, Joanie Kjerstad, Julie Ward, Shannon Porch, Shari Davey, Shilo Krolikowski, Amber Scott Fields, Nikki Scott-Gravatt, Jessie Scott-Hopkins, Kray Krolikowski, and Krocket Krolikowski.
LaVon was born on November 4, 1924 in Merriman, NE to Alexander Malcom and Ida Mae (Weber) Scott. She passed away on April 8, 2016 surrounded by her loving family at the Bennett County Hospital & Nursing Home in Martin, SD.
LaVon attended MerrimanSchool for all 12 years of grade school and high school education. On February 21, 1942 she united in marriage to Woodrow (Bud) Ward in Kadoka, SD. To this union, five children were born, Judy (Butch) Livermont, Beverly (Les) Byrne, John Ward, Diana (Ralph) Porch, Tom Ward, and Dick (Diane) Scott. LaVon was the proud grandmother of 17 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.
LaVon lived in the Martin area at LaCreek and north of Martin until July 2014 when she resided at the Bennett County Nursing Home until her passing. She worked at various places in Martin until she was well into her 80s. Her vibrant spirit and genuine smile touched the lives of all she met and will be greatly missed.
LaVon is survived by sons John Ward and Tom Ward of Martin, SD; daughters Judy (Butch) Livermont of Interior, SD, Beverly (Leslie) Byrne of Martin, SD, and Diana (Ralph) Porch of Wanblee, SD; brother Robert Scott of Sun City, AZ; 17 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
LaVon was preceded in death by her parents; husband Bud; grandson Joseph Ward Byrne; son-in-law Butch Livermont; daughter-in-law Beverly (Little Bev) Ward; brother Ashley Scott; sister Tena Yarbrough; brother-in-law James Yarbrough; and niece Sandy Yarbrough.
Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge, SD is in charge of arrangements for LaVon Marie Ward.
