Funeral services for Kristina Nicole Walking Eagle “Wicapi Iyoyanpa Win,” age 19, will be at 10:00 AM on Thursday, April 14, 2016 at the Pine Ridge Middle School Gymnasium in Pine Ridge, SD. Traditional Lakota services will be provided by Mike Carlow Jr.
Burial will be at the Walking Eagle Tiwahe Cemetery in Slim Buttes, SD.
A one-night wake service will begin at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at the Pine Ridge Middle School Gymnasium in Pine Ridge, SD.
Kristina was born on December 31, 1996 in Pine Ridge, SD to Kevin Walking Eagle Sr. and Doreen Brown. She passed away on April 8, 2016 in Pine Ridge, SD.
Kristina was currently furthering her education at the Oglala Lakota College majoring in Lakota Studies. She graduated from Pine Ridge High School in 2015. Kristina was a loving mother and took her role very seriously, providing baby Lester with love, comfort, and joy. Kristina was a very happy, fun-loving, beautiful young lady. She enjoyed her friends and sports and was always smiling and making people laugh. She will be missed by many.
Kristina is survived by father Kevin Walking Eagle of Pine Ridge, SD; mother Doreen Brown of Pine Ridge, SD; son Lester Lloyd Carlow of Pine Ridge, SD; brothers Jalen (Michelle) Walking Eagle, Kevin Walking Eagle Jr., and Tegan Walking Eagle of Pine Ridge, SD and Manuel Bad Milk and Waylon Bad Milk of Pierre, SD; sisters Kaleen Walking Eagle, Kalie Walking Eagle, KaiDee Walking Eagle, Hayden Walking Eagle, Kaydence Walking Eagle, Kristyn Walking Eagle, and Muliani Walking Eagle of Pine Ridge, SD; and grandparents Violet Catches of Pierre, SD and Imogene Goings of Pine Ridge, SD.
Kristina was preceded in death by maternal grandfather Lester W. Brown Sr.; paternal grandfather Kenneth L. Walking Eagle; maternal great-grandparents Garfield Sr. & Zona Brown; grandfathers Elgin Brown Sr. and Garfield Brown Jr.; uncles Ruben Brown Sr., Orien Two Bulls, and Steve Brown; and aunts Alicia Provost, Consuelo Brown, and Kellie Walking Eagle.
Pallbearers will be Lynette Bettelyoun, Aleigha Janis, Jordan Red Cloud, Mariah Shangreaux, Shelly Jack, Kelon Clements, Walter Cournoyer III, Nathan Bad Milk, Douglas Brown, and Jesse Brown.
Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge, SD is in charge of arrangements for Kristina Nicole Walking Eagle “Wicapi Iyoyanpa Win.”
