Funeral services for William James Charging Jr. “Wakiyan Watakpe,” age 63, will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at the Billy Mills Hall in Pine Ridge, SD. Traditional Lakota services will be provided by Joe Swift Bird.
Burial will be at the Brewer-Charging Buffalo Ranch in Slim Buttes, SD.
A one-night wake service will begin at 3:00 PM on Friday, April 29, 2016 at the Billy Mills Hall in Pine Ridge, SD.
William was born on December 3, 1952 in Pine Ridge, SD to Kathryn Charging. He passed away on April 22, 2016 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City, SD.
William is survived by sons William “Bill” Charging Jr. and Joe Charging of Pine Ridge, SD; daughter Kelly Charging of Fresno, CA; brother Jesse Charging of Pine Ridge, SD; sisters Phyllis Charging of Pine Ridge, SD and Ora Charging of Cheyenne, WY; three grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friend Josephine Waters.
William was preceded in death by mother Kathryn Charging; brother Joseph Charging; grandfather Dave Charging; grandmother Elizabeth Charging; cousin Mary Louise Charging; and uncles Theodore Charging and Renzol “Ramsey” Charging.
Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge, SD is in charge of arrangements for William James Charging Jr. “Wakiyan Watakpe.”
