Services for Douglas Patton Smith, age 71, of Chadron, NE, will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, May 9, 2016 at Chamberlain Chapel in Chadron, NE with Russ Seger officiating.
Graveside services will be held in Lusk, WY.
A memorial has been established for Chadron Rescue Services. Donations may be sent to Chamberlain Chapel, PO Box 970, Chadron, NE 69337.
Douglas passed away on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at Rapid City Regional Hospital. He was born on December 3, 1944 in Lusk, WY to Violet Mae (Hurt) Smith and Albert Moses Smith. He was the youngest of nine children and graduated from Lusk Schools.
In June of 1985, he married Theresa Gabriel. To this union, two daughters were born, Joyce and Francis Smith.
He loved to watch or listen to basketball, both Chadron State and the Huskers. He worked for Chadron State College for a while and for Jackson Thomas among other various jobs.
He was preceded in heath by his parents; sister Josephine Groom; and brothers John Delbert, Frank, George, and Chuck Smith.
Survivors include brother James; sisters Clarabell Davis and Mary Shiley; four children; and daughters Joyce and Francis.
Chamberlain Chapel of Chadron is in charge of arrangements for Douglas Patton Smith.
