Funeral services for Kenneth Lee Short Bear Jr. “Wanbli Hoksila,” age 49, will be at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at the Batesland School Gymnasium in Batesland, SD with Reverend Rhonda Mesteth and Senior Catechist Ben Conquering Bear officiating. Traditional Lakota Services will be provided by Lonnie Little Hoop.
Burial will be at the Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery in Porcupine, SD.
A one-night wake service will begin at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at the Batesland School Gymnasium in Batesland, SD.
Kenneth was born on July 14, 1966 in Pine Ridge, SD to Kenneth Short Bear Sr. and Theresa Feather Earring-Short Bear. He made his journey to the Spirit World on May 5, 2016 at the Hospice of the Hills in Rapid City, SD.
Kenneth is survived by son Coree Short Bear of Manderson, SD; daughters Miranda Short Bear of Rapid City, SD and Lucetta Short Bear of Oglala, SD; brothers Dwight Black Crow of Batesland, SD, Eugene Black Crow of Wakpamni, Waylon Black Crow Sr. of Turtle Mountain, ND, and Rick Gray Grass of Wakpamni; sisters Betty Black Crow of Gordon, NE and Mary Lou Black Crow of Wakpamni; and grandchildren Logan and Lucinda Short Bear of Rapid City, SD.
Kenneth was preceded in death by parents Kenneth Short Bear Sr. and Theresa Feather Earring-Short Bear; sisters Linda Feather Earring, Marilyn Tail, Dorothy Black Crow, Kathy Short Bear, and Tracy Buckley; and brother Tony Black Crow.
Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge, SD is in charge of arrangements for Kenneth Lee Short Bear Jr. “Wanbli Hoksila.”
