Funeral services for James Lee Ringing Shield, age 53, will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 26, 2016 at the Billy Mills Hall in Pine Ridge, SD with Charles McGaa officiating.
Burial will be at the Holy Rosary Catholic Mission Cemetery in Pine Ridge, SD.
A two-night wake service will start at 4:00 PM on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at the Billy Mills Hall in Pine Ridge, SD.
James passed away on May 19, 2016 in Rapid City, SD. He was born at the Pine Ridge Hospital in Pine Ridge, SD on January 26, 1963 to Delilah LaMont and Peter Ringing Shield.
James attended O.C.S. for grade school, then moved back to Wanblee up until the 7th grade. He graduated 8th grade from McCrossen Boys Ranch. He received his G.E.D. in Sioux Falls, SD. While in Sioux Falls, Jim completed training in Sioux Falls to take care of handicapped children. He returned to Pine Ridge and then started work at the Ambulance Base. He went on to be a police officer for the Pine Ridge District. Jim worked also worked at the DialysisCenter and later became the deputy sheriff for the Rushville, NE police department. He was also employed at the Cornerstone Mission for five years, where he was also a tenant.
James is survived by siblings Tyrell Jean (Stacy) Stewart, Jenny (Lenny) Davis, Lynette (Dave) Crow, Billy Joe Bean, Ann Marie (Ernie) Goings, Cecelia (Lyle) Blue Legs, Henry Good Buffalo, and Rae Lynn Beane, all of Pine Ridge, SD and numerous, nephews, nieces, & grandchildren.
James was preceded in death by parents Delilah Lou LaMont, Billy Beane, and Peter Ringing Shield; brother Ronald Beane Sr.; grandparents Agnes White Buffalo Chief, Laurence LaMont, Cecelia LaMont, and Esaul Richards; aunts Cheyenne Nicholes, Nada Eagle Bull, Babe Fischer, and Bonnie Lee; uncles Buddy LaMont, Earl (Shorty) LaMont, and Richard Lee; great-grandmother Jenny Apple-LaMont; and great-grandfather George LaMont.
Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge, SD is in charge of arrangements for James Lee Ringing Shield.
