Funeral services for SPC Tevin Louis Tyon “Quio Kute Pi,” age 21, will be at 1:00 PM on Friday, May 27, 2016 at the Pine Ridge High School Gymnasium in Pine Ridge, SD with RT Reverend Bishop John Tarrant and The Right Reverend Harold Eagle Bull officiating. Traditional Lakota services will be provided by Leonard Crow Dog.
Burial will be at 9:00 AM on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, SD.
A one-night wake service will begin at 5:00 PM on Thursday, May 26, 2016 at the Pine Ridge High School Gymnasium in Pine Ridge, SD.
Tevin passed away on May 23, 2016 in Slim Buttes, SD. He was a veteran in the U.S. Army National Guard.
Tevin was born on December 28, 1994 in Pine Ridge, SD to Dorothy Tyon and Jodie Plenty Wounds Sr. Tevin began his school years at Pine Ridge Head Start and graduated from the PineRidgeHigh School in 2013. While in high school, Tevin joined the JROTC, in which he was active from 2009-2013. He joined the National Guard and was committed to his 155th engineering company out of Rapid City, SD. Tevin was deployed to Kuwait in August 2015 and returned home in April 2016. He was very proud to serve his country and was promoted to Specialist SPC-4 in January 2016. Tevin enjoyed spending time with family and friends, riding his motorcycle, listening to Tech Nine music, and his favorite cologne was Sean John “I Am King.” Tevin is going to be missed dearly by his family, especially his Grandma and Grandpa Tyon who were so proud of him and his accomplishments.
Tevin is survived by mother Dorothy Tyon of Pine Ridge, SD; father Jodie Plenty Wounds of Batesland, SD; sister Nikita Valdez of Pine Ridge, SD; brothers Jodie and Lyle Plenty Wounds of Batesland, SD; maternal grandparents Ben and Clementine Tyon of Pine Ridge, SD; paternal grandfather Pete Plenty Wounds Sr.; godparents Louis Tyon Sr. of Park City, UT and Charleen Eagle Elk and Suzy Mesteth of Pine Ridge, SD; special friend Kiona Hopkins; nieces Beyonne Rose and Leyna Jaslene; nephew Chevy Cruz; and godsons King Tyon and Dayton Eagle Bull of Pine Ridge, SD.
Tevin was preceded in death by grandmother Dorothy Plenty Wounds; aunt Bayonne Tyon; and cousins Michelle Pourier and Toby Eagle Bull.
Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge, SD is in charge of arrangements for SPC Tevin Louis Tyon “Quio Kute Pi.”
