06/08/2016 - Luther One Horn

Funeral services for Luther Chris One Horn “Hehaka Hoksila,” age 60, will be at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church Hall in Kyle, SD with Reverend Cordelia Red Owl officiating. Traditional Lakota services will be provided by Richard Moves Camp.
 
Burial will be at the One Horn Family Cemetery in Kyle, SD.
 
A two-night wake service will begin at 2:00 PM on Monday, June 6, 2016 at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church Hall in Kyle, SD.
 
Luther was a veteran in the U.S. Army. He passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side at 3:50 AM on June 1, 2016 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City, SD. 
 
Luther was born on April 13, 1956 at home at American Horse Creek to Bernard & Dorene (No Neck) One Horn-Kills In Water. He was delivered by his grandmother, Lucy Kills In Water. 
 
Luther enlisted in the United States Army on September 27, 1974 and was stationed in Fort Jackson, SC. From there, he was sent to the Panama Canal during the Vietnam Era. Luther was honorably discharged from the United States Army on September 26, 1980. After his service in the military, he came home and worked at the Moccasin Factory, did construction and carpentry work, and also served as an ambulance driver, jailer, lay reader and police officer. Most recently, Luther went to work for the H.I.P. Program and retired from his position when he first became ill. 
 
When Luther was younger, he liked to play baseball and volleyball, go horseback riding and fishing, and race his sports car at 3-mile creek. Luther met the love of his life, Delphine (Long Soldier) One Horn, who was always by his side during illness and final moments of his life. He will be greatly missed by his wife, family, and all who knew him. 
 
Grateful for sharing his life are wife Delphine (Long Soldier) One Horn; sons David One Horn of Four Corners, AZ and Marlin Bo Salway-One Horn of Fort Washaki, WY; daughters Crystal One Horn and Ariyanna Breeze One Horn of Kyle, SD, Amelia One Horn of Martin, SD, and Clover Plenty Arrows of Soldier Creek, SD; grandchildren Ayannah One Horn and William Ryan Blue Legs-One Horn of Kyle, SD; sisters Olivia One Horn and Carmelita Mesteth of Kyle, SD and Diane Kills In Water of Sioux Falls, SD; brothers Sam (Elizabeth) One Horn and Bailey (Tina) One Horn of Kyle, SD, Bruce (Mary) Kills In Water of Little Eagle, SD, and Cameron One Horn of Arizona; and numerous nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.
 
Luther was preceded in death by parents Bernard & Dorene (No Neck) One Horn-Kills In Water; brothers Cleveland Kills In Water and Perry Kills In Water; hunka brother Earl “Shorty” LaMont Sr.; sister Lollie One Horn; children Devyn “John Boy” Blue Legs-One Horn and Baby Girl One Horn; uncles Alvin Has No Horse Sr. and Melvin Kills In Water; and aunts Georgianna Has No Horse, Mary Rose Kills In Water, Bertha Kills In Water-Grass Rope, Theresa Featherman, and Sophie Takes War Bonnet.
 
Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge, SD is in charge of arrangements for Luther Chris One Horn “Hehaka Hoksila.”
