Funeral services for Phoebe Angelique Red Elk, age 84, will be at 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at the Wounded Knee District School in Manderson, SD with Father Chris Johnson, S.J., and Joyce Tibbitts officiating.
Burial will be at the St. Agnes Catholic Church Cemetery in Manderson, SD.
A two-night wake service will begin at 2:00 PM on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at the Wounded Knee District School in Manderson, SD.
Phoebe was born on January 30, 1932 at the Old Cheyenne Agency near Eagle Butte, SD to John and Julia (Drops Two) Iron Hawk. She made her journey to the Spirit World on June 1, 2016 at the SelectSpecialtyHospital in Sioux Falls, SD.
Phoebe is survived by sons Peter Red Elk, Richard Red Elk, Emil Red Elk Sr., and Angelo Red Elk of Manderson, SD and Joseph Garreaux of Anchorage, AK; daughters Emma Red Elk and Patsy Red Elk of Manderson, SD, Matilda Red Elk of Rapid City, SD, and Genevieve Ribitsch of #4 Community in Oglala, SD; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Phoebe was preceded in death by spouse Patrick Red Elk Sr.; parents John and Julia Iron Hawk; children Donald Red Blanket, Lillian Yellow Horse, Wilbur Red Elk, and Patrick Red Elk Jr.; siblings James Marrowbone, Bernice Sits Poor-Chase In Sight, Franklin Sits Poor Jr., Neville Sits Poor, and Matilda Sits Poor; grandchildren Elton Red Elk, Nicolette Red Elk, Emil Red Elk Jr., and Francis Red Elk; and two infant grandchildren.
Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge, SD is in charge of arrangements for Phoebe Angelique Red Elk.
