Mass of Christian Burial for Gayla Jean Twiss, age 81, will be at 10:00 AM on Friday, June 10, 2016 at the Rockyford School Gymnasium in Rockyford, SD with Father Christopher Johnson, S.J., and Joyce Tibbitts officiating. Traditional Lakota services will be provided by Rick Two Dogs.
Burial will be at St. Mark’s Episcopal Cemetery in Rockyford, SD.
Visitation will be from 2:00-4:00 PM on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at the Sioux Funeral Home in Pine Ridge, SD.
A one-night wake service will begin at 5:00 PM on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at the Rockyford School Gymnasium in Rockyford, SD.
Gayla was born on April 21, 1935 to Stanley and Mary (Jordon) Jackson. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on June 4, 2016 at the Rapid CityRegionalHospital in Rapid City, SD.
Gayla is survived by children George Twiss Jr., Mary Sue Big Crow, Melvin J. Twiss, and Michael J. Twiss Sr. of Pine Ridge, SD, and Donna Lee Twiss of Denver, CO; hunka daughters Sandra Bettelyoun and Marilyn “Cat” Mousseau of Pine Ridge, SD; brother William Darrel Jackson of Rapid City, SD; 26 grandchildren; and 44 great-grandchildren.
Gayla was preceded in death by spouse George William Twiss Sr.; parents Stanley and Mary Jackson; son Gaylen Twiss; sister Sandra Gaines; and brother Stanley Edward Twiss.
Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge, SD is in charge of arrangements for Gayla Jean Twiss.
