06/10/2016 - Stanley Standing Soldier

Funeral services for Stanley Clement Standing Soldier, age 71, will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 10, 2016 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pine Ridge, SD with Pastor Elton Yellow Boy, Father Christopher Johnson, S.J., and Charles McGaa officiating.
 
Burial will be at Holy Rosary Mission Catholic Cemetery in Pine Ridge, SD.
 
A two-night wake service started at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at the Billy Mills Hall in Pine Ridge, SD.
 
Rosary services will be at 7:00 PM on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at the Billy Mills Hall in Pine Ridge, SD.
 
Stanley was a veteran in the U.S. Marine Corps and served in the Vietnam War. He was born on December 2, 1944 at the PineRidgeI.H.S.Hospital in Pine Ridge, SD to Stanley P. Standing Soldier and Dorothy Janis-Standing Soldier. He passed away on May 31, 2016 at the Rapid CityRegionalHospital in Rapid City, SD
 
He went to AllianceElementary School in the 1st and 2nd grade and then went on to St. Francis Mission for 3rd grade through the 12th grade, where he graduated in 1964. He then attended WayneStateUniversity and received his Liberal Arts degree.
 
He joined the Marines and served from January 25, 1968-January 23, 1970, when he was honorably discharged. Not long after he joined, he was shipped to Vietnam, where he earned his Marksman Rifle Badge, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal, Vietnamese Campaign Medal, and Good Conduct Medal.
 
After completion of his term in the United States Marine Corps, he attended college at the Northrop Institute of Technology where he received his Airframe and Power Plant Maintenance on July 17, 1972 in Inglewood, CA, where he lived with his Uncle Clement and Aunt Vivian.
 
He then came to Pine RidgeS.D. to visit his cousin, Tony Jensen, where he met his best friend and long-time partner Diane (Ramos) Standing Soldier. They then waited three years before having a child (Lisa Standing Soldier). They lived happily together for 40 years in Pine Ridge, where they retired from their long-time service with the federal government/BIA. Stanley served for 20 years with the BIA, from January 18, 1975-March 31, 1995. He married Diane Ramos and they lived happily together.
 
Stanley was preceded in death by parents Stanley Phillip Standing Soldier and Dorothy Janis, son Carlos Ramos Jr., brother Earl Standing Soldier, and sister Amy Soden Standing Soldier.
He is survived by spouse Diane Standing Soldier (Ramos); daughters Lisa Standing Soldier of Pine Ridge, SD, Dawn Ramos of Rapid City, SD, and Renee Ramos of Pine Ridge, SD; sons Kevin Ramos and Robert “Bobby” Lopez of Pine Ridge, SD; and brother David Standing Soldier of Pine Ridge, SD.
 
Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge, SD is in charge of arrangements for Stanley Clement Standing Soldier.
