Funeral services for Robert John Bear Shield, age 32, will be at 1:00 PM on Thursday, June 30, 2016 at the Billy Mills Hall in Pine Ridge, SD with Quincy Good Star officiating. Traditional Lakota services will be provided by Mike Little Boy. Special speaker will be Francis Jahner.
Burial services will be at Bear Shield Family Cemetery in Wounded Knee, SD.
A two-night wake service will begin with the first night at 12:00 PM on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at the Mother Butler Center in Rapid City, SD. The second night will start at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at the Billy Mills Hall in Pine Ridge, SD.
Robert was born on February 5, 1984 in Pine Ridge, SD to Jerry Bear Shield Sr. and Yvette Marrow Bone. He passed away on June 22, 2016 near Rapid City, SD.
Robert is survived by parents Jerry Bear Shield Sr. of Rapid City, SD and Yvette Marrow Bone of Wounded Knee, SD; spouse Bridgette Jahner-Bear Shield of Rapid City, SD; and brother Jerry Jesse Bear Shield Jr. of Rapid City, SD.
Robert was preceded in death by brothers Matthew and Derek Bear Shield; cousin Floriberto Parra Munoz Jr.; and grandparents Regina Grabbing Bear, Francis Grabbing Bear, Howard Blue Bird, Bryan Blue Bird Sr., Antoine Blue Bird, Dorothy American Horse, Emily King, Agatha Belle, Theresa and Myrtle, Katherine Blue Bird, Rueben Fernandez, Antoine Marrow Bone, Irene Marrow Bone, Edna Blue Bird-Grabbing Bear-Apple, Jesse Bear Shield Sr., and Kermit, Zack, Stella, John and Mary Bear Shield.
