07/02/2016 - Daryl John Yellow Hawk

Funeral services for Daryl John (D. John) Yellow Hawk, age 69, will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, July 2, 2016 at D. John’s residence near Kyle, SD with Father Rick Abert, S.J., officiating. Traditional Lakota services will be provided by Stanley Hollow Horn.
 
Burial will be at the Yellow Hawk Family Cemetery in No Flesh, SD.
 
A two-night wake service will begin with the first night at 2:00 PM on Thursday, June 30, 2016 at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Hall in Kyle, SD. The second night will start at 4:00 PM on Friday, July 1, 2016 at D. John’s residence near Kyle, SD.
 
D. John was born on April 5, 1947 in Pine Ridge, SD to Luke Broken Rope (Joshua Gay) and Katie Yellow Hawk. He began his journey to the Spirit World on June 24, 2016 in Kyle, SD.
 
D. John is survived by sons Daryl John (DJ) Yellow Hawk Jr., Clarence Yellow Hawk and Lionel Yellow Hawk, all of Allen, SD, Eric, Leonard and Ata Yellow Hawk, all of No Flesh, SD, Jonathan Yellow Hawk of Chadron, NE and Enoch Yellow Hawk of Colstrip, MT; daughters Lillian Yellow Hawk of Alllen, SD, Leann Cano of Lame Deer, MT, and Jonette Yellow Hawk of No Flesh, SD; brothers Joseph Broken Rope, Elwin Broken Rope and Collin Gay, all of Kyle, SD; sisters Nancy Gay of Kyle, SD, Marilyn Morrison of Norris, SD, and Belnita Little Bear of Wounded Knee, SD; 38 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
 
D. John was preceded in death by parents Luke Broken Rope (Joshua Gay) and Katie Yellow Hawk; wife Lorna Yellow Hawk; sister Delores Takes War Bonnett; and son Marlon Featherman.
 
Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge, SD is in charge of arrangements for Daryl John (D. John) Yellow Hawk.
