Funeral services for Robert Dean Blacksmith “Tatanka Owetainyan Mani,” age 43, will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at the Brother Rene Hall in Oglala, SD with Sister Barb and Reverend Robert Two Bulls officiating. Traditional Lakota services will be provided by Marvin Helper.
Burial will be at the Poor Elk Family Cemetery, #6 Community in Oglala, SD.
A two-night wake service will start at 1:00 PM on Thursday, July 7, 2016 at the Brother Rene Hall in Oglala, SD.
Robert was born on June 6, 1973 in Pine Ridge, SD to Kenneth and Marlene (Poor Elk) Blacksmith. He made his journey to the Spirit World on July 3, 2016 at Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City, SD.
Robert is survived by mother Marlene (Poor Elk) Blacksmith of Oglala, SD; children Gilbert, Kaymie and JoDean Blacksmith, all of Oglala, SD; brothers Stanley, Delayne and Hunter Blacksmith, all of Oglala, SD; sisters Elizabeth Morrison and Melissa, Lenora, Karen, Julie, and Sage Blacksmith, all of Oglala, SD and Vonna Blacksmith of Kyle, SD; three grandchildren; hunka brothers Tim Kindle and Benedict Scabby Face of Oglala, SD, Byron Shot With Arrow of Rapid City, SD and Brian Hart of Rosebud, SD; other mom Jessie Bear Robe of Oglala, SD; and aunt Louise Long Soldier.
Robert was preceded in death by father Kenneth Blacksmith; brothers John Wayne Blacksmith, June Blacksmith, Allen, Leon, and Elton Long Soldier, and Brent Espinoza; uncles Pete Blacksmith Sr., Russell Poor Elk, Chester Poor Elk and Major Jake Jr. Poor Elk; aunts Margaret Ten Fingers and Clarabella Poor Elk; paternal grandparents John and Edna Blacksmith; and maternal grandparents Major Jake Poor Elk and Elizabeth Poor Elk.
Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge, SD is in charge of arrangements for Robert Dean Blacksmith.
