Gene was born May 23, 1933 in JimFalls, WI. He moved to Wayside, NE at the age of nine to the homestead of his grandparents, Vern and Nancy Stewart. Gene graduated from Platte Valley Academy in Shelton, NE in 1952. He attended Union College in Lincoln, NE for one year and was drafted to the Korean War in 1953. After his service in 1956, he returned to Wayside and started his lifelong career of farming and ranching. Gene married the love of his life, Carolyn Weaver, on May 20, 1956. They welcomed three boys to their union, Barry, Bart and Rick. Together they worked the land for 56 years.
Gene was most happy flying his plane. He would step out his front door, walk across the tracks, would be up in the air off checking cows or the water line. Many a night was spent playing cards, visiting with family and friends, and always enjoying Carolyn’s cooking.
Gene always took time for worship. He was a lifelong member of the SeventhDayAdventistChurch. In 2012, Gene and Carolyn moved in to Chadron where they resided until Gene’s passing on July 16, 2016.
Gene was preceded in death by parents Glen and Mildred Stewart. He is survived by wife Carolyn; children Barry (Laurie), Bart (Kelly), and Rick (Jody); grandchildren Jason, Cody (Meggan), Katy (Ryan), Triston, Brooke, and Quinton; great-grandchild Jaxon; and many relatives and friends.
Chamberlain Chapel of Chadron is in charge of arrangements Eugene “Gene” Eldon Stewart.
