Funeral services for Murphy Caleb Swan II “Canku Luta Ogna Mani,” age 48, will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, July 25, 2016 at the Mother Butler Center in Rapid City, SD with Pastor Deb Douglas officiating.
Burial will be at the Inestimable Gift Cemetery in Allen, SD. A one-night wake service will begin at 3:00 PM on Sunday, July 24, 2016 at the MotherButlerCenter in Rapid City, SD, with services starting at 7:00 PM.
Murphy was born on July 12, 1968 in Rapid City, SD to Caroll and Charlotte Swan. He left for the Spirit World on July 21, 2016 in Pierre, SD. Murphy was born and raised in Rapid City, SD and attended the public schools, Knollwood Elementary, North Junior High, and Central.
Murphy jumped in the construction field at an early age, becoming an exceptional carpenter. Murphy loved carpentry, saying, "It's an honest profession; it never lies." He would remain a carpenter the rest of his life until his illness, which prohibited him from working. Through it all he remained strong, true, honest, and loyal.
He loved being outdoors; what he did outdoors remains a mystery. Vicki and Murphy both loved to be outdoors. What Murphy didn't have, he made up in heart; he was a fighter his whole life until the end. He took on any challenge, never backing down. The only time was his last challenge; he battled and fought this last challenge as he did every challenge. He was one of the strongest people his loved ones have ever known, especially those who really knew him. He is with his family and loved ones now, a place where we all want to be someday; if he can do this, we all can do this. Murphy was able to find peace, to forgive, to ask for forgiveness, and to forgive himself. He will be remembered and missed by all!
Murphy is survived by wife Vicki Lynn Swan of Pierre, SD; brother John A. Swan of Rapid City, SD; sons Cody & Trevor Swan of Rapid City, SD; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Murphy was preceded in death by parents Carol and Charlotte Swan and numerous aunts and uncles.
Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge, SD is in charge of arrangements for Murphy Caleb Swan II “Canku Luta Ogna Mani.”
