Funeral services for Elaine P. Provost-Swallow, age 91, will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, August 29, 2016 at Holy Rosary Mission Church in Pine Ridge, SD with Father Peter Klink, S.J., officiating.
Burial will be at 2:00 PM on Monday, August 29, 2016 at Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, SD.
Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 PM on Sunday, August 28, 2016 at Holy Rosary Mission Church in Pine Ridge, SD.
A Rosary service will be at 7:00 PM on Sunday, August 28, 2016 at Holy Rosary Mission Church in Pine Ridge.
Elaine was born on June 5, 1925 to Clinton Provost and Margaret Cottier at their home on the Pine Ridge Reservation. She passed away on August 24, 2016 at the Seven Sisters Nursing Home in Hot Springs, SD.
Elaine attended school at WakpamniLakeGovernmentSchool where she went up to the eighth grade. She remained at home to help her parents with the homestead. Elaine was raised in the Sandhills south of Batesland, SD. She worked very hard. She married Lloyd Swallow on November 16, 1962 in Alliance, NE. To this union were born two sons, Clinton L. Swallow and Raymond L. Swallow, who still ranch in the Wakpamni and Batesland area.
Elaine worked at several jobs in the Pine Ridge area before taking a job with I.H.S. as a housekeeper for 19 years. After Elaine retired, she worked with the school nurse at Batesland to help take care of the students. She was known as Grandma to a lot of students. She gave so much to her work and only asked for friendship. Elaine was a lady with a smile for everyone.
Elaine is survived by sons Clinton Swallow of Pine Ridge, SD and Raymond Swallow of Batesland, SD; foster brother Donnie Garcia of Rapid City, SD; grandchildren Sherlyn (Russell) Swallow-Cournoyer of Wakpamni, SD, Samantha (Timithy) Brewer of Gordon, NE, JoBeth Swallow of Pine Ridge, SD, Clinton (Rose) Swallow Jr. and Cole Swallow of Belle Fourche, SD, and Elaina Swallow of Pine Ridge, SD; and six great-grandchildren.
Elaine was preceded in death by brother Clint Jr. who passed at birth; parents Clinton Provost and Margaret Cottier; spouse Lloyd; and sister-in-law Marie Twiss.
Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge, SD is in charge of arrangements for Elaine P. Provost-Swallow.
