Funeral services for Jessica Antonia Colleen Running Shield, age 33, will be at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at the Billy Mills Hall in Pine Ridge, SD with Father Chris Johnson, S.J., officiating.
Traditional Lakota services will be provided by Floyd Running Hawk.
Cremation will follow the funeral service.
A two-night wake services will begin at 2:00 PM on Sunday, August 28, 2016 at the Billy Mills Hall in Pine Ridge, SD.
Jessica was born on June 18, 1983 in Pine Ridge, SD to Rudolph Vargas Sr. and Rita Big Crow. She passed away on August 24, 2016 in Pine Ridge, SD.
Jessica is survived by mother Rita Big Crow of Pine Ridge, SD; spouse Nicholas Janis of Pine Ridge, SD; sons Terrance Running Shield and Tyger Running Shield of Pine Ridge, SD, Quinton Maldonado Jr., Armani Maldonado, and Triston Maldonado of Kyle, SD; daughter Mysti Running Shield of Pine Ridge, SD; brothers Raymond Running Shield, Rudolph Running Shield, Wesley Running Shield, Lesley Running Shield, and Jim Running Shield of Pine Ridge, SD; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Jessica was preceded in death by father Rudolph Vargas Sr. and grandparents Marcella Mills-Big Crow-Martin, James Big Crow Sr., and Trinidad & Betty Vargas.
Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge, SD is in charge of arrangements for Jessica Antonia Colleen Running Shield.
